Living the “Good Old Days” Right Now
There’s a line from The Office that has always stuck with me. Andy Bernard says, “I wish there was a way to know you’re in the good old days before you’ve actually left them.” When I first heard that, it made me pause. It’s so true—especially when we’re young, it’s hard to realize how meaningful the present really is until it’s already behind us.
Looking back, I know I didn’t always appreciate the moments I was in as much as I should have. Practices, games, school days, even simple time with friends—they felt ordinary then. But now, when I reflect, it’s the good memories that rise to the surface. Those were the “good old days,” even if I didn’t see it at the time.
This idea ties directly into my mantra: OWN, NOW, WON. Usually, “NOW” means take action—do it today, don’t wait. But in this case, “NOW” also means be here, be present, and find gratitude for the moment you’re in. Life moves fast. If we don’t stop to recognize the value of now, we risk wishing later that we had.
And yes, not every moment feels easy. Sometimes you’re struggling, frustrated, or questioning if it’s worth it. But it’s in those struggles that growth happens. One day, you’ll look back and realize even those difficult times shaped you into who you are.
So step back. Take a breath. Soak it all in. Because these are the good old days—you just might not realize it yet.
With you always,
Sofia
